About Sorell Pickleball Club
Sorell Pickleball originated from an idea by Dale Richardson. This was following social interactions with friends who played the sport and were involved in establishing Eastern Shore Pickleball at Clarence.
Dale Richardson and Mario Natoli approached South East Stadium management to explore the possibility of introducing pickleball at the venue. For the first 18 months, courts were taped out for each session and the tape removed afterwards.
The sport began to gain momentum in the area. The South East Stadium then closed for six months to allow for floor replacement. During this period, the committee sourced alternative venues. At the same time, committee members Dale Richardson, Pam Giffard, and Craig Swan lobbied Sorell Council to have permanent court lines marked on the new floor.
Sorell Council agreed to mark out four courts at the stadium, providing a dedicated and high-quality venue for pickleball. The South East Stadium is one of the best venues for Pickleball in Tasmania. A new venue with open spaces around the courts making playing enjoyable.
The club extends its sincere thanks to the Sorell Council for its commitment to supporting both the sport and the club.
Sorell Pickleball has expanded in numbers and wonderful friendships have blossomed along the way. Everyone in the club has a welcoming spirit, a camaraderie and enthusiasm for the sport with the hope of strengthening the club as it moves forward.
